1.
Pokémon (Main Character) - Most popular Nintendo games have a lighter tone, to begin with, and the same goes for Pokemon. Almost all major Pokemon games feature a kid protagonist who’s out there on the journey to become the best Pokemon trainer. Pokémon games are easily one of the best RPGs on Nintendo consoles and have sold over 250 million copies worldwide. -
2.
The Legend Of Zelda (Link) - The first game in the Legend of Zelda franchise was released all the way back in 1986. This is where the players were introduced to Link, the 12-year-old boy turned warrior, who’s on to his amazing adventure, unaware that he’s going to become one of the most popular Nintendo protagonists ever. -
3.
The Last Guardian (The Boy) - The more is said for Team Ico, the less. The Japanese video game development studio has made only a few games in the last two decades, but all of them are worth remembering. The Last Guardian is their latest game which features a boy as the main character. Their first game Ico also featured a horned boy as the protagonist. -
4.
Limbo (Nameless Boy) - Limbo is one of the most simple yet alluring puzzle-platform video games of 2010. This game is timeless, considering its art style, and so is the main character in the game. Not much is known about the nameless boy from Limbo, except that he’s on a journey to find his sister. -
5.
The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit (Chris) - Set in the same universe as the Life is Strange series, TAAOCS is a graphic adventure game that plays around with the idea of a kid having superpowers. The game is directly tied into the main story of Life is Strange 2. -
6.
Life Is Strange 2 (Daniel & Sean) - The Life is Strange series took a turn for the better when it featured a deeper story of two young brothers. Sean & Daniel are the protagonist and deuteragonist of the game and are pretty well-written characters. -
7.
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (Naia & Naiee) - Brothers is directed by Josef Fares, who’s now well known for his work in building amazing co-op titles. The game is a perfect example of well-balanced cooperative gameplay involving two brothers in a tragic circumstance. -
8.
Mega Man - There’s no straight evidence if MegaMan is a kid, except originally the character was to be named "Mighty Kid," "Knuckle Kid," and "Rainbow Battle Kid.” This means that the protagonist of the Mega Man series by Capcom is indeed a robot boy hero. -
9.
Inside (The Boy) - The developers of Limbo have made yet another game in a similar spirit. This time it’s a 2.5D puzzle-platform title that features a young boy running away from the masked guards. Inside is gritty, artistic, and completely atmospheric, and certainly, a must-play like Limbo. -
10.
The Walking Dead (Clementine) - When Telltale’s zombie epic first begins, not many would have thought that they’ll be playing as the little girl from season one as the main protagonist. Clementine is easily one of the best and well-written kid characters in video games. -
11.
Kingdom Hearts (Sora) - Sora is yet another popular kid protagonist who’s actually also sort of a superhero in Kingdom Hearts. He is a Keyblade wielder from Destiny Island who’s ventured on to different worlds in his journey to search for King Mickey, all at the age of fourteen. -
12.
Bully (Jimmy Hopkins) - Jimmy is easily the most notorious kid on the list, all thanks to the amazing writing of Rockstar Games. Bully is basically a GTA based in school and has some of the most fun missions for its time. Although Jimmy isn’t as popular as other GTA protagonists, he’s still well known by the gaming community. -
13.
Spyro - This little dragon may not be a human, but he is still one of the youngest protagonists (12-years-old) in gaming history. The first time people played Spyro was in 1998, and the latest entry was released in 2018 titled Spyro Reignited Trilogy. -
14.
South Park: The Fractured but Whole (New Kid) - The South Park games are all about humor blended into ridiculous over-the-top scenarios and make-belief stories. So it’s safe to say that such thoughts can only result from the mind of a child who's stuck in an Imaginationland. -
15.
Undertale (The Kid) - The little kid from Undertale is who so ever the player wants them to be. The kid is easily one of the most memorable characters, especially due to the game's popularity. Undertale is worth playing not just because of its characters but also the music.
